Place the Dried split fava beans in a large bowl, cover with cold water, and let them soak overnight, or for at least 8 hours.

Drain and thoroughly rinse the fava beans. Transfer them to a large pot and add the Vegetable broth. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer until the fava beans are very tender and easily mashed, about 60 to 90 minutes. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface during cooking.

While the fava beans are cooking, clean the Fresh chicory by removing any tough outer leaves and trimming the root end. Wash the chicory thoroughly under cold running water. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil, then blanch the chicory for 5 minutes. Drain the chicory and squeeze out as much excess water as possible, then roughly chop it.
