Rinse the dried split fava beans thoroughly under cold running water. Place the rinsed dried split fava beans in a large bowl and cover with cold water by at least 5 cm. Let them soak for a minimum of 8 hours or overnight.

Drain the soaked dried split fava beans and transfer them to a heavy-bottomed pot. Cover with fresh cold water by about 2-3 cm. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, skimming off any foam that rises to the surface. Add 2 grams of salt. Simmer gently, partially covered, for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the dried split fava beans are extremely tender and begin to break down. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

While the dried split fava beans are cooking, clean the chicory greens. Trim any tough ends and remove damaged leaves. Wash the chicory greens thoroughly under cold running water to remove any soil.
