Drain the soaked cashews and almonds. Grind them with a small amount of water to a very smooth, fine paste.
Heat ghee in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium heat.
Add cumin seeds, green cardamom, black cardamom, cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and black peppercorns. Sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
