1Place the dried licorice root into a large, sturdy bowl.
2Add 500 grams of water to the licorice root. Vigorously knead and massage the licorice root with your hands for 10-15 minutes, pressing and squeezing to extract its dark flavor. The water will turn a deep brown color.
3Strain the liquid into another clean bowl, using a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Firmly press the licorice root solids to extract all remaining liquid. Discard the strained licorice root solids.
