1Rinse the black sesame seeds thoroughly under cold running water using a fine-mesh sieve. Drain well.
2Heat a dry wok or large pan over medium heat. Add the rinsed and drained black sesame seeds and toast, stirring constantly, until they are fragrant and slightly popping, about 5-7 minutes. Be careful not to burn the black sesame seeds. Transfer them to a bowl and let cool completely.
3Rinse the jasmine rice until the water runs clear. Place the jasmine rice in a small bowl and cover it with fresh water. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes, then drain thoroughly before use.
