1Rinse the mung beans thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Place the rinsed mung beans in a large bowl, cover with fresh water, and soak for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
2Rinse the white rice thoroughly. Place the rinsed white rice in a separate bowl, cover with fresh water, and soak for at least 30 minutes.
3Drain the soaked mung beans and white rice. Transfer both to a large heavy-bottomed pot.
