Rinse the pearled barley thoroughly under cold running water until the water runs clear.

Soak the rinsed pearled barley in 300g of the water for at least 30 minutes. Drain the barley, discarding the soaking water.

In a medium pot, combine the soaked pearled barley with the remaining 700g of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the pearled barley is tender.
