1Rinse the Coarse corn grits under cold running water until the water runs clear. Transfer the rinsed Coarse corn grits to a bowl and add 500 grams of Water. Let the Coarse corn grits soak for at least 30 minutes, or preferably overnight, to soften them.
2Drain the soaked Coarse corn grits and transfer them to a heavy-bottomed pot. Add the remaining 1300 grams of Water and the Baking soda to the pot.
3Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over high heat, stirring occasionally to prevent the Coarse corn grits from sticking to the bottom.
