Rinse the Red beans thoroughly and soak them in cold water overnight, or for at least 8 hours. Drain the soaking water.

Place the soaked Red beans in a large pot and add enough fresh water to cover them by about 5 cm. Bring to a boil over high heat, then immediately drain the water. This step helps remove bitterness.

Return the Red beans to the pot with fresh water, again covering by about 5 cm. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the Red beans are very tender and easily mashable.
