1Rinse the dried black beans thoroughly under cold running water. Place the rinsed dried black beans in a bowl and add enough cold water to cover them by at least 5 centimeters. Let the dried black beans soak for a minimum of 4 hours or preferably overnight.
2After soaking, drain the black beans and rinse them again under cold water.
3Rinse the short-grain white rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. Drain the short-grain white rice well.
