Clean the Banana blossom by removing the tough outer layers and inner florets, then finely chop it. Immediately immerse the chopped Banana blossom in water mixed with a pinch of Turmeric powder and some Salt to prevent discoloration and remove bitterness. Boil the Banana blossom in fresh water with a little Turmeric powder and Salt for 15 minutes until tender, then drain thoroughly and mash lightly.

Drain the soaked Chana dal and set aside.

Heat Mustard oil in a heavy-bottomed pan or kadai over medium heat. Once hot, add Cumin seeds and Bay leaf. Allow the Cumin seeds to splutter.
