1Carefully sort through the mulberries, removing any stems or damaged fruit. Gently rinse the mulberries under cold water and drain thoroughly.
2In a large, wide pot, layer the mulberries and granulated sugar. Start with a layer of mulberries, then a layer of granulated sugar, repeating until all ingredients are used.
3Cover the pot and let the mulberries and granulated sugar sit at room temperature for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the mulberries to release their natural juices.
