Rinse the Japanese short-grain rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain and cook the rice with 360 grams of water in a rice cooker or pot according to package instructions.

While the rice cooks, prepare the meat sauce. Heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat.
