1Soak the urad dal in sufficient water overnight, or for at least 6-8 hours.
2Drain the soaked urad dal completely and grind it in a mixer grinder with minimal water (just enough to form a smooth paste) until it forms a very fine, thick batter. The batter should be smooth and pourable, yet thick enough to hold its shape.
3Transfer the urad dal batter to a large bowl. Add the rice flour and orange food coloring to the batter. Mix well.
